Red carpet trend: The wet look

the wet hair lookWhile summer still appears to be here, we thought we’d delve deeper into the current red carpet trend that’s loved by the Kardashians and friends; the wet look.

How It Started

The wet look has appeared on many a catwalk over the past few years, but when it comes to introducing the trend to the masses, it’s Kim Kardashian who wore it first. The reality TV star first embraced this major trend a few years ago. Back then she wore it in a severe style, as if she’d just stepped out of a swimming pool and pushed her hair back, but today’s way to wear it is all about creating a relaxed, beachy vibe. Just this weekend Kim wore the style to the MTV Video Music Awards, and her stylist Michael Kenra created the ‘wet look’ with a cocktail of products.

First, he applied a priming cream to Kim’s hair from mid-lengths to the ends, before working a moisturising oil through it. To increase the wave factor he spritzed on some texturising mist and then went to work with a diffuser, being sure not to actually touch Kim’s hair. Once ‘dry’, he applied more oil and a finishing spray to lock in shine and keep the hair frizz-free.

In Real Life

You’ve probably got countless clients who love to wash and go in the morning, but this look takes a lot more work. Still, it’s a great look for your more brave clients who fancy something a bit different to their Friday night updo. The key to this look is recreating the wet look without leaving the hair wet, and therefore prone to the elements.

The Products

A range that suits the wet look trend to a ‘T’ is Schwarzkopf’s Osis+ Glamination range. It’s packed with de-frizzing ingredients that will leave hair soft, shiny and sleek and lends itself perfectly to layering.
