The texture trend...we ask the experts

The next big thing when it comes to nails is texture, texture, texture! We spoke to MAD Beauty, OPI and Gellux to find out about the latest nail products and how to create a range of textures with your existing kit.

Why are we seeing nails becoming even more 3D, as well as textured formulas – aren't women just happy with colourful, glossy nails?

“We saw lots of 3D nails on the runways for spring [2013], and even for autumn winter, and with the likes of blogs and beauty-focused websites, nail trends seem to filter through much more quickly these days. Nails are a fun accessory that we can change in an instant, so people like to play and try something new. You can still have a glossy nail with added texture if you want.”
Gellux Session Nail Technician, Michelle Class

“As significant as colour, nail design/art continues to be an important element in fashion, acting as an accessory as necessary as jewellery. By experimenting with application designs and exploring in new looks, nail fashions heights are limited only by imagination and daring.”
OPI’s Nicola Byrne

“Nails are the new accessories – polished nails are so on-trend and now the more different the design the more they will get noticed.”
MAD Beauty’s Julia Cash

What’s a good look/style to create on clients to really show off a textured effect?

“Using Gellux as your base, you can add fine glitters or caviar beads into the top coat before curing to give a textured look, or even a cluster of stones and crystals to really go for the 3D look!”
Gellux Session Nail Technician, Michelle Class

“For an understated look people are just texturizing one nail on each hand.”
MAD Beauty’s Julia Cash

“Every client is an individual and what’s on their nails should reflect their personality or mood. We recommend a ring finger manicure to really show the depth of colour and reflective glitter against the high shine OPI nail lacquers.”
OPI’s Nicola Byrne

Why has your brand chosen to release texture effect products?

“We have always been known for different products – we were the first company under the Toma brand to bring mood-changing and Krackle polish to the market over 10 years ago. We are MAD Beauty!”
MAD Beauty’s Julia Cash

“OPI launched texture four years ago with the launch of the Matte and then Suede range; this year [2013] we've launched a ground-breaking technology for a textured, matte finish infused with reflective sparkle. OPI continues to work alongside fashion brands and celebrities researching the latest trends, colours and textures."
OPI’s Nicola Byrne

Fave textured look?

“I'm loving the Gellux summer colours so I use a mash up of Blue Lagoon, Pink Champagne and Purple Haze with co-ordinating glitters to really make them pop and bring a bit of summer fun into my day!”
Gellux Session Nail Technician, Michelle Class

“I know it’s summer but I love the black suede! I have a bright pink on all my fingers, apart from my two little fingers, which have the black suede; it looks so good!"
MAD Beauty’s Julia Cash

“Liquid sand – it’s so chic with a touch of glitter glamour!”
OPI’s Nicola Byrne
