Freelance Focus with Danielle
Welcome to a brand-new addition to the blog! Freelance Focus is where we talk to some of our favourite freelancers about how they got here and how they stay motivated – and organised! If you’d like to be featured, just email marketing@capitalhb.co.uk and tell us why!
Today we’re talking to Danielle Cacioppo, owner of The Lash Studio, in Worthing. Read on for her advice on going freelance.
Capital: When was the first time you realised you wanted to go freelance?
Danielle: After working various employed jobs, I realised that I wanted to work for myself and run my own business while choosing my own hours.
Capital: What’s the best thing about being freelance?
Danielle: The best part of being freelance is being able to choose my hours around my family life which means I get to spend more time with my son. If I was tied into regular employed hours things would be much more difficult.
Capital: What’s the most challenging side of being freelance?
Danielle: The most challenging part of being freelance is budgeting as your income can vary, but with the right budgeting I’ve learned it’s definitely possible!
Capital: How do you stay up to date with the beauty community?
Danielle: I attend as many beauty events as I can and make sure to book myself on training courses to stay up to date within the industry, as well as networking events!
Capital: What’s your best confidence building tip?
Danielle: Step out of your comfort zone and do things that you wouldn’t usually do - it helped build my confidence when I attended events. I used to get so worried about them but once I started turning up, I realised they were much less scary than I thought, and they could actually be a lot of fun.
Capital: What’s the most valuable piece of advice you would offer to someone who wants to go freelance but feels nervous or unsure?
Danielle: When making a big decision, it’s easy to think about what could happen if it doesn’t work out, but instead I would rather think about what might happen if it does work out! That’s what gives me the courage to go for it.
