Summer is all about lightness and freshness and when it comes to hair colour it's no different! It's all about taking a mindful approach when creating new shades and being powerful, playful and organic. For me, there are four key trends we're seeing here at Brooks & Brooks, central London.
Mellow coral
One of the biggest trends for 2019 is all about playing with Pantone's Colour of the Year: Living Coral. As hairdressers, Pantone has given us a shade that we can use to inspire our clients to be as subtle or as bold as they want to be. It's a playful, sunny, wearable tone that works great on lighter bases and can be dialled up for vibrant redheads or dialled down for pastel blondes. Living Coral is great to work with as we can create a wide variety of tones under the coral umbrella.
Blonde ambition
Summer is always about being blonde and 2019 is no exception. However, for this year it's the minimalist blonde that takes centre stage, with lived-in, shadowed roots and low maintenance aftercare. Minimalist creams and beige's are the perfect combination to freshen up a spring blonde. Creating soft, melting tones in the hair will give subtle definition and in natural light, create a beautiful multi-tonal effect. Simplicity is the key with this trend.
Red alert
Red are having a moment in 2019 - the more vibrant, bold and powerful the better! This is the ultimate statement trend that guarantees to turn heads. Adding iridescent tones to give a blue-based undertone, just like a classic Chanel lipstick, this colour is super-flattering on warmer skin tones.
Bronzing effect
At the moment I'm really into hair bronzing. Dialled up or dialled down, this is a trend that can be commercially worn and tailor-made to suit all clients on all types of bases. This colour will add the radiance hair needs, with hues of sunny tones meeting cool tones to create a wide variety of hazy, bespoke palettes. Think sun-stones brunettes, opal blondes, amber haze and ruby quartz. Work by layering these tones over freehand balayage to create expensive, luminous locks or bump the base up by painting over the hair's natural base to create seamless blends and melts in the hair.
