Glam Time!
It’s been a year and a half; now’s the time to bring in the NEW – new brows, new nails, new hair!
Brow-zing
For Katie Godfrey of KG Professional it’s the season to make up for lost time.
“We had nothing to get glammed up for last year, so this year we’re seeing a lot more clients come into the salon for brow lamination. I think more people are willing to try this new treatment because it makes a huge difference to their brows and how they frame the face. With different techniques and new treatment formulas cutting down time in the chair, plus adding tint into the mix; if it’s thicker, healthier-looking brows they're after, this brow look is definitely for them.
“We’ve also noticed a lot of clients converting to lash lifts for a lower maintenance look, but who wouldn’t want to go that extra glam mile and have lash extensions in time for the festive period? Russian volume lashes will be huge this year, and for time-poor clients, pre-made lashes are super popular, as they can be done in half the time. The great thing about Russian volume and pre-mades, is that we can go long and thick for instant party season vibes,” says Katie.
Brow and lash tints plus extensions add extra oomph to any glam-ready look, but when it comes to hair there’s a distinct celebrity influence. Stars such as Dua Lipa and Kim Kardashian have both been seen sporting wet-look waves on the red carpet, and for Callum Standen-May, of STANDENMAY it’s the perfect party option.
Party Hair
“Wet look waves is my absolute favourite glam look; it’s a style that’s ideal for clients who want to experiment for a special event or Christmas party. With this style it’s all about the products you use. I love mixing a hair gel and shine crème together and usually start by using them to slick the hair back off the face for a luxe finish and then distribute product with a comb through the rest of the hair, before scrunching to create those effortless wet waves. A shine spray or hairspray can then be used to keep the look in place all night long,” Callum says.
For Mark McCarthy, of MARKDAVID Salon, party season is all about playing with texture, from twists and chignons to braids, all with a touch of polish. Again, there’s a celebrity influence; think of the super long braids often seen on the likes of Beyonce and Ariana Grande and you get the picture.
“Polished, braided buns are joining the classic updo as a festive go-to, as they can be sleek in appearance and slicked off the face for a sophisticated look. The beauty of these hairstyles is that they can be created incredibly easily but look instantly chic – the perfect kind of styles for clients going from desk to dance floor! Chignon-like styles will also be popular for the season. Again, worn sleek with the hair being rolled into a knot for an incredibly feminine and classic party look. With all of these looks, I always recommend using a gel or serum to keep the hair going into the bun or braid looking smooth and to provide a mirror-like shine that’s key for the festive season!” says Mark.
