New York Fashion Week hair trends

As always, New York is an industry leader when it comes to the catwalk – but it’s not all about the fashion. Here are just some of our favourite hair trends that we've been inspired by during New York Fashion Week.

Flowers

Our first sighting of pretty floral hair accessories happened at the DVF show. The veteran designer opted for beautiful, slightly seventies waves that were adorned with the most delicate blooms. The trend was also spotted at boho designer Anna Sui’s show – again, the models wore waves, but they were much looser, and were straighter towards the bottom.

Washed Out

Another top trend was a kind of worn-in, washed-out style. Stylists at Milly and Diesel Black Gold played with waxes and wet look gels for styles that were at once dishevelled and fashion-forward.

All Gold

At the Rodarte show, stunning, intricate golden hair grips and barrettes held straight, but not poker straight, locks back from the models’ faces. At Alice + Olivia the gold theme continued, this time with decadent crowns sat atop messy braided ponytails.

Afros

Usually a rare sight on the catwalk, afros reigned supreme, particularly the TWA – AKA the Teeny Weeny Afro. Models in shows for the likes of Rag & Bone, Harbison and Creatures of the Wind, all sported ‘fros that were mostly shaped to flatter each individual models’ head, offering a fresh take on effortless catwalk hair.
