Pacific Northwest Core

This September, we’re chasing fog instead of sunshine. The air is crisp, the trails are damp, and the evergreens are calling.  This season is all about embracing the raw beauty of the outdoors: practical layers, low-maintenance glam, and colours inspired by the forest floor. Think cosy, think functional, think effortlessly wild.

Whether you’re trekking through actual pine forests or simply bringing a bit of wilderness chic into your everyday routine, here’s how to bring the full PNW Core aesthetic to life, head to toe.

🌿 Nails: Earthy and Untamed

This is the season to swap out brights for deep, grounding shades.

  • Colour Palette: Forest greens, charcoal greys, oxblood reds, and muted browns - the kind of colours you’d find on a misty hike.
  • Texture Matters: Matte finishes create a raw, natural look, while stonewashed or speckled textures mimic rocks, bark, and moss.
  • Nail Art: Minimalist designs inspired by topographic lines, tiny pine trees, or micro French tips with deep green edges are trending.
  • Shape: Short, natural nails or softly squared shapes are perfect - nothing too fussy, just like the aesthetic itself.

This is less about polish perfection and more about nails that feel at home wrapped around a warm vanilla latte after a rainy walk.

🌧️ Hair: Nature’s Texture

Forget the blowout, this look is about celebrating undone texture.

  • Styling: Use sea-salt sprays or light texturising mists to enhance your natural waves. Let them air-dry or loosely diffuse for a wind-tossed finish.
  • Go-To Styles: Loose side braids, low messy buns with face-framing tendrils, and beanie-tucked hair are effortless and functional.
  • Colour: Smoky brunette, cool chestnut, or ashy highlights add depth without looking “done.” This is a great season for subtle balayage that grows out softly.
  • Accessories: Beanies, scrunchies in earth tones, and claw clips in matte finishes pair beautifully with this low-maintenance vibe.

The goal? Hair that looks like you’ve just spent a morning by the ocean or hiking through a foggy forest.

💧 Skincare: Barrier First

Autumn air can be harsh, so this look relies on a strong skin barrier.

  • Hydration: Layer hydrating mists between your serums and creams to lock in moisture.
  • Creams & Balms: Choose products with ceramides, squalane, or shea butter to keep your skin soft and supple.
  • Multipurpose Products: Balm sticks and all-over creams are perfect for on-the-go touch-ups.
  • Finish: Skin should look plump, dewy, and just a little flushed - like you’ve been out in the fresh air, not stuck under fluorescent lights.

Think of your skincare routine as layering your outdoor gear: base layer (serum), insulating layer (cream), protective shell (balm).

🌫️ Makeup: Windswept Minimalism

The PNW Core look is lived-in, not overly precise.

  • Eyes: Smudge your liner softly for a slept-in effect. Cool neutrals like taupe, slate grey, and soft browns keep the look grounded. A pop of moss green shadow can feel very on-theme.
  • Brows: Keep them brushed up and natural - nothing too sculpted.
  • Complexion: Cream blush gives a healthy, wind-bitten flush. Skip heavy contour and go for fresh, breathable skin.
  • Lips: Stains or balms in berry tones, muted rose, or even a sheer cocoa shade keep lips looking natural but kissed with colour.

The result is makeup that looks good in soft daylight: perfect for coffee shop dates, long walks, and misty afternoons.

🧥 Fashion: Functional Layers

PNW Core is as much about practicality as it is about style.

  • Outerwear: Rain jackets, anoraks, and waxed canvas coats that can handle drizzle.
  • Midlayers: Cosy fleece pullovers, wool sweaters, and quilted vests are your best friends.
  • Base Layers: Flannels, henleys, and ribbed tops - always soft, always easy to wear.
  • Bottoms: Cargo pants, straight-leg jeans, or hiking leggings you can wear from trail to town.
  • Footwear: Waterproof boots or chunky sneakers for grip and comfort.
  • Accessories: Wool socks peeking out of boots, knit beanies, and crossbody bags for hands-free adventures.

This is a wardrobe you can actually live in, not just pose for photos in.
