That time of year has arrived when your client's social calendars are busier than ever, with non-stop family events and Christmas work parties! Read on for our ultimate party season hair and beauty trend guide.
Elegance Rules
Quiet luxury has quietly been taken over by the new maximalism trend, but that doesn’t mean your clients who have always leaned towards understated elegance are going to suddenly ask for a complete transformation. There is always room for elegance, and when it comes to party season, you’ll see it in the form of a rich red lipstick, stunning gold jewellery and a flawless updo – think French twist – secured perfectly without a pin or grip in sight.
The inspo: Look to 90s supermodels like Yasmeen Ghauri and Christy Turlington, who wore the most elegant and glamorous cuts in that decadent decade. Think a swingy, glossy bob that goes below the jawline a la Yasmeen, or a sexy, choppy ear-length bob just like gorgeous Christy!
Bejewelled
Whether it’s their nails, their eyelids or their hair, some of your clients are going to be going all-out when it comes to embellishing their party season looks. Likely a response to the chokehold that quiet luxury has had on the world this past year, we’re leaning into embellishment on any surface we can find.
For Nails: think metallics enhanced with 3D beads, stones and glitter.
For Eyes: you can expect to see a demand for bejewelled lashes as well as tiny rhinestones covering the entire eyelid – just like this amazing look by @aoifeartist.
When it comes to the hair it’s all about multiple grips and colourful slides coated in Swarovski crystals and a great hairstyle to show them all off is the always in style super slick ponytail. Create a mirror-like finish on the slick pony and then embellish to your heart’s desire!
The inspo: Look back at any of the catwalk creations that makeup artist Pat McGrath created for John Galliano’s Dior fashion shows; this creative duo always went for metallics and embellishment from head to toe and what’s so great about this trend is that you can go chic and sparkly or full-on blingtastic.
Goodbye Clean Girl!
When it comes to party season makeup looks it’s all about full-on bold faces coming back – the clean girl is gone for good. Instead think ‘80s indulgence and extravagance. Cheeks will be snatched with vivid blush and eyes will sparkle and shimmer with bold purples and pinks all topped off with glittering metallics. We’ll also see that colourful shimmer extend to the hair with glitter sprays in rich reds and golds enhancing your client’s curls and waves.
Of course, full-on makeup either calls for equally full-on hair, or hair that is simple and chic, allowing the makeup to take centre stage. A great look for the bold makeup trend could be Old Hollywood; cascading waves that lend themselves to being enhanced with stunning hair jewellery or a touch of glitter spray.
The inspo: Look no further than the brilliant Chappell Roan, an artist who uses her face to express exactly how she’s feeling – whether that’s a clown-inspired face or a ballerina crying crystal tears. It’s no wonder she’s been named the newest ambassador for MAC Cosmetics!
